I'll never feel comfortable taking a strong drink, and I'll never feel easy smoking a cigarette. I just don't think those things are right for me.

31st July 1969 to the 26th of June 1977 - 1,156 shows from 52 tours.

The Essential '77 Soundboard Collection

The essential ’77 soundboard collection (3 cd’s). Yes, It’s possible, a brand new set with really improved sound quality.

HAVING FUN IN FLORIDA – VOLUME 1

This Orlando soundboard was recorded on February 15th, 1977. Clearly, it was a good night. There’s a ‘joie de vivre’ in Elvis’ performance that was generally lacking in that final year. Particularly impressive are his astounding renditions of ‘Hurt’ and ‘My Way’. A heartwarming performance – captured in a vibrant and exciting live sound

TROUBLE IN SAGINAW – VOLUME 2

On May 3rd, 1977, Elvis Presley performed in Saginaw, MI for the second time on this tour. This performance was also the final night of the tour. It’s clear that Elvis is exhausted, but nevertheless he does his best to give the crowd their money’s worth. He even opens with ‘That’s All Right Mama’ instead of the usual ‘C.C. Rider’. An above-par performance from a very troubled year for Elvis.

STUMPIN’ MADISON – VOLUME 3

This soundboard tape was recorded near the end of Elvis’ final tour, in Madison, WI on June 24th, 1977.

His regular drummer Ronnie Tutt was replaced on this night by the Sweet Inspirations drummer, Jerome ‘Stump’ Monroe. And considering the fact that Jerome was asked to fill in during the sound check with no possibility to rehearse, he does a tremendous job: “Leave the driving to Stump!”.

Groove masters wants to take a lead by offering you the best available sound quality to date of these recordings by mastering the groove!

Warning: If you’re used to average sound, Please, first sit down before push play.

Elvis 77 - New Trailer

The imminent new Boxcar ‘ELVIS 77 – THE FINAL CURTAIN’ release have just issued its second trailer focussing only on the 400 page book and the 2 DVDs containing the 8mm movies.

It is understood that this is part of a 6 DVD and 6 CD package promising unreleased footage and new complete soundboards. However due to security issues, further contents of the box cannot be revealed at this time. In the meantime further details have surfaced that this set will be out before the end of the year but will only be Limited to 1500 copies. It is also estimated that the initial cost is around the 250 Euro mark. If any of their previous releases are anything to go by, as soon as it is released, the price is expected to go much higher.

Trailer for the upcoming 1977 box set

The label behind 'The Final Curtain' box has put a new trailer on eBay. According to the producers of the box, the trailer is completely 'legal'. We sinserely doubt that, and we expect EPE to remove the clip from eBay in the very near future. Anyway, here's the direct link to the promotional video, although there's no unseen footage this time.

Will the CBS special 'Elvis In Concert' be released?

With everybody talking about the import set 'The Final Curtain', it seems logic to know EPE's view on the 1977 CBS Television show. What is the status of the TV special "Elvis in Concert" (1977)? And will it ever be commercially/officially released? Here's what Elvis Presley Enterprises posted on the official website www.elvis.com:

This special and its related footage are owned by EPE. The 1977 television special "Elvis in Concert," which was shot during Elvis' last concert tour in June of 1977 (not actually the last concert itself as Vernon Presley indicated in a statement at the end of the special), aired a couple of times on network television and parts of it, and additional footage shot during the production of it, have been used in various television and video documentary projects over the years. However, much to the disappointment of a number of fans, we have no plans for releasing on DVD at this time.

Because of the severity of Elvis' health problems at the time the special was shot, Elvis was far from his best in the way he looked and the way he performed, though there are some truly brilliant moments in the footage. The true fans look at this through the eyes of love, respect and understanding, and see the great historical value - as do all the members of our staff. But, this not so with much of the general public and the media. It's not that we don't want the fans to have this footage or that we don't know how much it would mean to them. We do. There just simply is no way to get it only to the real fans (and we've exhausted all kinds of ideas) without also having Elvis served up to the general public and press for ridicule. They already emphasize and exaggerate the tragedy and sadness of the last years of his life too much. Right now, the emphasis for us is to remind them of all that came before.

More Boxcar boxes

From a press release that was sent to all fanclubs: "Due to high demand, Boxcar will now release 4 Digi-Packs with mini books of selected CD’s and DVD’s, all factory pressed, from its recent sold out release. The selected DVD’s are this time mastered directly to NTSC. The release of the 4 Digi-packs will commence shortly and are each limited to only 1000 copies."

FROM ORLANDO TO SAGINAW – 2 CD DIGIPACK w/12 pg Book

This special 2CD collection includes 2 new shows featuring the lost performances of Orlando and Saginaw with highlight recordings from shows in between.

ONE NIGHT IN MADISON – 1 CD DIGIPACK w/12 pg Book

Taken from 24th June in Madison, this is the only complete Elvis show from 1977 and, is the last known soundboard of an Elvis concert to released.

The CBS Tapes – 2 DVD SET (NTSC) Digipack w/ 20 pg

This is the most up to date release of the last 2 professionally filmed Elvis shows in Omaha and Rapid City taped for the CBS TV Special in 1977. Re-mastered frame by frame and including the new footage and now released in NTSC.

The CBS TV Special 1977 – 1 DVD SET (NTSC) Digipack w/ 20 pg Book

For the first time ever, using a 1st Generation digital copy of a TV Station tape and re-mastered frame by frame is in now NTSC.

NOTE: as these boxes are illegal, we will NOT sell them. We do not support these releases in any way nor do we want to be associated with them. But the fact that this 'official press release' has been sent out to various fanclubs and media, makes us believe that we can share the news of the upcoming releases without promoting it.

The Final Curtain

Stunning! The package measures 30x22.5x6.5 cm and is focussing on the Sundial Suit. The book is over 400 pages and filled with mainly live pictures from 1977. I keep it in the middle if it is worth looking at regarding the shape Elvis was in on most of them, but I do wish the That’s The Way It Is package from a couple of years back had this treatment!

All CDs are printed with the Sundial and the 8mm DVDs have a part of the Sundial as print. These discs have their own fold out case. The 3 CBS-DVDs and the bonus DVD “Elvis Is Dead” are included with the book.

Content

The special itself was the first disc I put in my player. Indeed the quality of the images is a lot better than the video copy I have (as far as memory recalls, since it must been more than 15 years since I watched it). With video I can stand Elvis in 1977 for a while, since every now and then you see a little shadow of what the man used to be.

Back in the late 70s, early 80s as a teenager I used to defend Elvis at all costs and even this special when it was aired. Now I can only say wisdom does come with the ages. The two more or less complete shows used for the special, Omaha and Rapid City were a bit disappointing regarding quality, but compared to the 8mm DVDs they are more than watchable (regarding image quality). The bonus DVD is an unique document, but very sad to watch – I wasn’t able to sit through it completely yet.

I couldn’t punish myself by sitting through all shows on CD, hoping for that occasional good performance (says some who was happy with Moody Blue live some 25 years ago) and if I did most of you would disagree anyway  :-).

Conclusion

Although it is not exactly my piece of cake, the package is a unique document covering Elvis’ final year. It is a beautiful set which fits in every Elvis-collection perfectly, even mine. Still I understand EPE's policy not to release this material, the impersonators do more than enough damage.

For a more complete review I'll gladly direct you to Elvis Information Network, my friends over there have many pictures included.
