Elvis wigs from Kissin' Cousins up for auction: Elvis Presley Screen-Featured Wigs. The legendary Rock and Roll singer-turned-movie star Elvis Presley wore these two dark blonde hand-tied wigs while working at MGM, possibly for Kissing Cousins though the date suggests it was later rented for a subsequent production.

The wig # 1300B includes the MGM studio stock card. The wig record card has "Stock No. 1300B", the date "2-11-66", and "original Player: E. Presley" typed on it. There are some pencil note markings as well. Description: Dark Blonde Modern.

The wig 1300A includes the original MGM studio cardboard box. The front of the box has been labeled "1300 B, DK. Blonde Modern, E. Presley". Both wigs are made from human hair and are in overall Fine condition.

Wig 1300B has the nape extension dated 2-11-66 and has been restyled for photography. The box has been badly moisture-stained and the top cover has a broken corner. The wig box is in Fair condition. The studio card has a 1/2" tear. Otherwise it is in Very Good condition.

From The MGM Wig Archive. Estimate: $3,000 - up.

Visitors to Elvis Presley’s Graceland in Memphis will have three new exhibits to enjoy and explore the various sides of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll in 2011, from his impact on the world to the roots and influence of his memorable music that started a rock ‘n’ roll revolution.

All three new exhibits are opening throughout the first quarter of 2011, a year that marks the 55th anniversary of several first for the King of Rock ‘n Roll, including his first RCA single and national hit, "Heartbreak Hotel," his first movie, "Love Me Tender," and his first television appearances.

To help promote these exciting new exhibits, a team of representatives from Graceland will be taking “Elvis on Tour” as they appear on local radio and television shows and meet with travel writers in key media markets across the Southeast, Southwest and Midwest. All of the markets are within driving distance of Memphis, one of America’s most affordable vacation destinations that offers more than just an authentic Elvis experience with a tour of Graceland, but the blues of Beale Street and the best BBQ on both sides of the Mississippi River.

Elvis is known as the “King of Bling” and coming along for the ride on this media tour are several shiny artifacts from the three new exhibits and include:

- Elvis’ first Grammy for a 1967 recording of “How Great Thou Art” which appears in The Roots of Elvis Exhibit.

- The belt Elvis wore during his famous meeting with President Richard Nixon in the Oval Office and the badge Nixon gave Elvis, making him an honorary agent as seen in Elvis! His Groundbreaking, Hip-Shaking, Newsmaking Story.

- Elvis’ first gold record for his 1956 single recording of “Heartbreak Hotel” which is on display in the new Elvis in 1956 Interactive Timeline.

Photos and videos of these artifacts and the exhibit spaces are available for download below for use in on-air, online and print coverage of these appearances and any advance promotion.

Most forged autograph: Elvis Presley

On the site of PSA/DNA, a company that authenticates autographs, we found the publication of a list of most forged autograpgs. Elvis' signature tops the list. The site writes:

Elvis Presley - ($1,500 for a signed cut to $35,000 or more for a signed contract or letter). The King of Rock and Roll leads our non-sports list in 2010. Passing away at only 42 years of age in 1977, the amount of authentic autographs is extremely limited. Elvis' popularity is global. For example, large numbers of forgeries can be found in Europe, not just the United States. More specifically, Germany and the Netherlands. Very few handwritten letters, which are extremely desirable, are known of this American Icon. Signed photos are the most prevalent type of authentic Elvis autographs but they still have been known to sell for thousands of dollars at auction.

Writing on the Graceland wall today is a tradition that dates back to when Elvis first purchased Graceland. The same thing happened with this mailbox, which is the original mailbox that stood outside of Graceland while Elvis lived there. After enough signatures and notes covered the mailbox, it would be repainted.

This telephone

 was obtained by

 Harold Lloyd (Elvis Presley cousin)

for me as a gift in 1979 Sep. during my 2nd trip in Memphis.

After lunch, Harold said to me "..Terry, I have a small gift for you..".

Then, he gave me a green telephone !!

He told me than this telephone were used by Elvis in the early 70's at Graceland.

Black Makeup Case

This black Max Factor makeup case is the most infamous of all Elvis artifacts.

Elvis owned hundreds of pieces of clothing, jewelry, and dozens of guns and cars. But Elvis owned only two cases in his lifetime. The one he carried that last two years of his life is secured in the Graceland archive. This one was never out of his reach for nearly eleven years and is the one you see in many of the behind the scenes photographs of Elvis on the road.

As is stated in the provenance from Joe Esposito, Elvis’ close friend and road manager for seventeen years, Esposito purchased the case at Elvis’ request from the Max Factor Store in Hollywood, California in the early 1960’s. Elvis kept personal items and jewelry in the case. As Esposito states, "The case went everywhere we went, and there was hell to pay if someone forgot to bring it."

In the book, Elvis Aaron Presley: Revelations From The Memphis Mafia, by Alanna Nash, Marty Lacker recalls, "We were doing Kid Galahad when I first noticed what Elvis called his makeup case. It was a professional Hollywood makeup case with little drawers in it. He carried it with him wherever he went or had one of us carry it. It wasn’t for makeup…he used it to carry pills. The whole top layer of the kit was nothing but prescription bottles. All legal. He had all kinds of stuff. Uppers and downers. Pain pills. You name it…He had a pharmacy in that box. We could always tell when he was taking something by the way he acted. And if we didn’t see him, we’d hear him…we’d hear the bottles rattling."

To maintain its authenticity, nothing about the case has been refurbished. The top compartment contains the original green felt lining. All of the drawers in the bottom half are original to the case. Elvis’ name is stamped in silver just below the main front clasp.

When the new case was made, which Elvis demanded be identical to this one, Esposito stored this one until it was purchased by the current owner in July 2000. The winning bidder will receive a signed and notarized provenance from the current owner and from Joe Esposito.

This is an extraordinary one-of-kind artifact. As Esposito says, "If this makeup case could talk, the stories would be unbelievable. Thank goodness it can’t!"

                                      "Elvis On Tour" Cadillac
Elvis used this Cadillac touring sedan in the making of his 1972 concert film, "Elvis On Tour". Elvis leased this Cadillac in April of 1972 for his Virginia concert dates. Elvis used the cadillac for transportation from the airport to the hotel and the Coliseum. The Limo was owned by Albert Durant the first black limo company owner in Virginia. The footage in the movie is from three different concerts spliced into one clip. Elvis is shown in this limo as it leaves the Coliseum filmed from the outside. The interior shots were taken a few days later from  a separate concert in Jacksonville Florida. All three concerts in Virginia were filmed for Elvis' film and  I'm sure even more footage of this car is in the outtakes of "Elvis on Tour". The car is in fair condition but needs restoration. It is historic car and part of Elvis film and concert history. It has great documentation. Price $15,000 in its original state or $30,000 fully restored

Check written to the International School of Languages in August of 1967 for French lessons for Priscilla. Since Elvis was out of town so often, he would come up with different things like this to occupy Priscilla's time, such as dance and karate.

Check from February 1968 for a Colt Python pistol. When Lt. Col. Beaulieu (Priscilla's father) was going to Vietnam, Elvis worried about his safety. Concerned that Lt. Col. Beaulieu might get stuck in a dangerous situation, Elvis Presented him with the pistol, which he always carried but never had to use

Elvis's donation of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's beloved "Floating White House," the USS Potomac, to St. Jude. This week's artifact is Elvis' check which he used to pay for the yacht that he donated to St Jude's. From November 1, 2007 - January 11, 2008 visitors to both Elvis.com and Graceland will be encouraged to make a difference in the life of a child this holiday season by joining Marlo Thomas, her celebrity friends and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital® for their Thanks and Giving campaign

Hardcore Fan Attended 81 Elvis Concerts

Elvis Presley may have died 34 years ago, but one Palm Harbor man's memories of the King of Rock and Roll live on. 60 year-old Joe Makowski is probably the biggest Elvis Presley fan in all of Palm Harbor, possibly even Florida. Makowski says he saw Elvis in concert a total of 81 times from 1971 through 1977, “He never disappointed me, I think he was the greatest entertainer, with the greatest voice of all time,” he said.

Makowski's fascination with Presley began at the age of 13. He remembers the day well. December 8, 1964 Makowski went with friend to see the movie, "Roustabout" starring Elvis Presley. Makowski says he was immediately struck by Elvis' charisma. He couldn’t take his eyes off the screen. “I wanted to be just like that guy,” he said, “He was so cool.” The teen became hooked on Presley movies. He saw many of them multiple times. His favorite was Flaming Star. “He was a great singer of course,” said Makowski, “But he was a fine dramatic actor as well. Flaming Star and other dramatic roles such as playing Danny in King Creole proved this.”

From that point on, Elvis became his hobby and passion. “If Elvis appeared on the cover of a fan magazine, I would buy it,” said Makowski. “I bought all his new records and slowly bought the older ones when I had the money.” Soon he had all of Elvis’s records in his collection. “It was contagious,” said Makowski, “I got all of my friends hooked on Elvis too.” The hobby continued into adulthood. As a postal worker, this die-hard Elvis fan would schedule his annual vacations around Presley’s concert schedule, “I saw Elvis perform in 15 different cities,” he said.

“One year in Las Vegas, I went to his concerts at the Hilton seven nights in a row. Each night, Elvis added something different and exciting to the show.” In 1975, Makowski had the honor of meeting Presley after a New Year's Eve concert. At around 3:30 in the morning, Elvis arrived at his hotel with his entourage. “I was waiting for him in the lobby.” said Makowski . “I called his name and told him I came all the way from New Jersey to see him. Elvis turned around and said ‘Thanks a lot man, it’s you fans that make all this possible.’ He signed an autograph for me and went on his way. I will never forget that moment.”

By early 1976, Makowski says he could see something was wrong with Elvis. His concerts were becoming erratic and the King of Rock and Roll did not always look well. “At times he looked bloated and pale. When I got to shake his hand, his fingers were swollen and his face was puffy. It made me very sad,” said Makowski. On June 25, 1977, Makowski went to an Elvis concert in Cincinnati, Ohio. The concert was videotaped by CBS-TV for an upcoming live album and television special. At the end of the concert, the CBS film crew interviewed Makowski about Elvis. The interview wound up being included in a TV show that was broadcast across the country.

The next day Makowski boarded a bus to Indianapolis to attend what turned out to be the last concert of Elvis Presley’s life. Makowski continues to remember the King of Rock and Roll and recently made a trip to Graceland in Memphis to commemorate the August 16 anniversary of his death. He was among the first in line outside Graceland and told an associated press reporter, "The biggest thing I get out of it is seeing the young fans that weren't even born until years after he passed away."
